I just ordered a SIM9000A unit from Amazon which should arrive tomorrow. I'm in somewhat urgent need to get SMS to work. I contacted Tello and they say they don't have CAT-M support, but I'll try anyway because I have their sim card.
What other carriers are available for this module and in the US that I should consider? I need SMS only and don't care about data.

If you're in the US, Hologram's SIM card works great. Tested and proven to work well.

Except Hologram doesn't seem to like T-mobile. I have had several friends and relatives who cannot receive the SMS from the SIM7000 directly using the hologram card. You would have to go through Holograms interface to check SMS. Im not sure if T-mobile blocks the overseas number or what. AT&T and other carriers seem to work fine.

Thanks for the quick response. Turns out my Tello SIM card works for SMS just fine. Network status says CAT-M1, so I suppose the rep I spoke with gave me bad info. Calls don't work, at least with the default config, but I don't need that functionality. I ordered a Hologram SIM as a backup, but that won't arrive until later in the week. I haven't tested data as I'm not paying for that with Tello.
